New Zealand-based Turners & Growers Ltd. has started a joint venture with Unifrutti for table grapes produced in Piura, Peru.
Planting is expected to begin near the end of the year, and harvest of the first commercial volumes in late 2015.
“(Unifrutti has) significant experience in the development of vineyards and infrastructure in South America and have superior new table grape varieties within their portfolio,” Alastair Hulbert, chief executive of Turners & Growers, said in a news release.
“We are focusing on grapes as one of our key categories and building partnerships to expand our pip fruit and other key products internationally,” Hulbert said.
Through its subsidiary Delica, Turners & Growers has developed a global table grape trading business for more than 10 years.
“Table grapes are one of our key products and through this partnership we will be able to better serve our clients by expanding our shipping season,” said Jorge Massanes, executive vice president of Unifrutti Chile. “Investing in Peru is something that has been one of our priorities and finding the right partner was the challenge.”
Unifrutti is owned by the De Nadai International Group. Unifrutti Group has growing operations in the Philippines, South Africa and Chile, plus global sales and distribution.
