U.S. grapefruit, lemon and tangerine/mandarin production are up this year, but fewer U.S. oranges are expected to ship.
About 8.4 million tons of U.S. oranges should ship in 2013, down from 9 million tons in 2012, according to the Aug. 12 Crop Production report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Grapefruit production is expected to increase from 1.15 million tons in 2012 to 1.2 million tons in 2013, according to the report.
Lemon production should rise from 850,000 to 872,000 tons, and tangerine/mandarin production from 648,000 to 687,000 tons.
Florida tangelo production fell from 52,000 tons to 45,000 tons.
