The U.S. pear industry has a new website targeted to children.
Redesigned from another section of its website, http://pearworld.kidzsmart.com, Pear World is designed to be more playful, fresh and fun and to also function via mobile devices including smartphones and tablets, according to a news release from the Milwaukie, Ore.-based Pear Bureau Northwest.
The playful pear-themed site attempts to educate and entertain elementary school children by bringing the pear orchard to life to involve children with pears and encourages families to include pears as they work to fill half their plates with fruits and vegetables, according to the release.
The site includes an interactive “living orchard” that changes with the seasons and other rooms include the pear kitchen which features recipes and the Pear Lab which features arts and crafts.
“We are pleased to offer this unique online destination where kids and families can really have some fun with their pears,” Cristie Mather, the Pear Bureau’s director of communications, said in the release. “Pear World is a place where kids can roll up their sleeves and interact with pears in the virtual orchard and in their real kitchen at home. We aim to increase familiarity with pears among kids and families, thereby helping to develop a preference for pears which will drive repeat purchase.”
Retailers and produce industry partners are welcome to link to Pear World from their own websites, blogs, and social media, according to the release.
The website is also found under the “Kids and Classroom” section of http://www.usapears.org.
