The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s deputy secretary and a world-famous chef will visit a New Orleans farm to highlight the importance of locally grown produce.
Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan and chef Paul Prudhomme will host a cooking demonstration and local produce tasting Feb. 26 at New Orleans’ Hollygrove Farm, according to a USDA news release.
The event is designed to highlight the economic opportunity associated with local and regional food production.
At the event, Merrigan will announce a new USDA report that highlights new economic opportunities for growers and ranchers by utilizing food hubs. She will also highlight USDA’s commitment to increasing economic opportunities for local farmers and ranchers while expanding access to fresh, local foods, according to the release.
