The U.S. Department of Agriculture will host a Web seminar on transitioning to organic production.
The USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service will conduct the NRCS Conservation Plan: Supporting Organic Transition, at 3 p.m. Eastern time on Feb. 18, according to a news release.
The NRCS Conservation Plan allows farmers transitioning to organic production, or organic farmers transitioning new land to organic production, to apply for financial and technical assistance for conservation practices.
Export initiative announced
Also new from USDA, the agency has announced a program to help growers who want to become exporters.
Under the initiative, USDA will enhance partnerships with state and regional trade groups and “cooperators” and coordinate services to new farmers looking to explore export markets.
USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service teaches growers the fundamentals of exporting and helps fund international marketing campaigns and promotions of U.S. farm and food products overseas.
FAS also partners with more than 70 nonprofit trade associations, called “cooperators,” that represent food producers.
