The U.S. Department of Agriculture filed administrative actions against two produce companies under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act.
The companies are:
- Adams Produce Co. LLC., Birmingham, Ala., for allegedly failing to pay 51 sellers $10,735,186 for produce bought between August 2011 and May 2012.
- Del Monte Farms LLC, Vineland, N.J., for allegedly failing to pay 19 produce sellers a total of $703,632 for produce bought between October 2011 and July 2012. Del Monte Farms is not affiliated with Del Monte Corp. or Del Monte Foods, according to the USDA.
The companies will have the opportunity to request a hearing. If they are found responsible for failing to pay their debts, they will be barred from the industry for two years.
