The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has released its final 2008-2012 summaries for citrus, vegetables, melons and strawberries.
About 11.7 million tons of citrus — 4.1 million tons for the fresh market — worth $3.7 billion were produced in the U.S. in 2012, according to the citrus report.
About 9 million tons of oranges and 1.2 million tons of grapefruit were produced in the U.S. in 2012.
About 430 million cwt. of leading fresh-market vegetables and melons worth $9.8 billion were produced in 2012, according to the vegetable report.
About 30 million cwt. of strawberries worth $2.4 billion were produced in 2012.
