Uncle Matt’s founder elected to lead Organic Trade Association

The founder of one of Florida’s leading organic citrus grower-shippers now heads the organic agriculture industry’s trade group.

McLean Matt McLean, chief executive officer of Uncle Matt’s Organic Inc., Clermont, Fla., has been elected president of the Brattleboro, Vt.-based Organic Trade Association.

Serving as an association board member since 2005, McLean was elected president by the group’s 14 other board members after he was recently re-elected to the board for his final three-year term. The group’s presidents serve one-year terms, according to a news release.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to be elected president of our board,” McLean said in the release.  “The Organic Trade Association is vital to the success of the organic industry and I’m thrilled to serve alongside such a talented and well-respected group of industry leaders.  I believe we can make a long lasting difference for future generations.”

As head of the organic trade group, McLean said he plans to help set the agenda for 2012 and help the group advocate and promote organic standards, crop and land transition to organic production as well as serving as an industry liaison to consumers, he said in the release.

Started in 1999, Uncle Matt’s has become a large organic grower-shipper of fresh and processed citrus. Uncle Matt’s also grows organic blueberries, organic avocados and produces organic not-from-concentrate juices.
