Unified Grocers Inc. has named Seattle-based Charlie’s Produce its exclusive produce supplier for the wholesale distributor’s independent retail customers in Oregon, Washington and Alaska.

The partnership increases the overall offering for retailers there, Bob Ling, president and chief executive officer of Unified Grocers, said in a news release.

“It also simplifies billing by consolidating statements and providing incentives for our retailers’ continued purchases through Unified and Charlie’s,” Ling said.

Some Unified staffers may join Charlie’s Produce, according to the release. Unified plans to continue to service Cash & Carry stores in the Pacific Northwest from its Portland produce facility.

Charlie’s offers more than 5,500 fresh produce items — including local and organic — plus specialty and fresh-cut produce, floral and home meal replacement products. The company plans expansions and remodels for its facilities in Spokane, Wash.; Seattle; Portland; and Anchorage, Ala.
