A new system offered by Unisun Software is helping Hess Bros. Fruit Co., Leola, Pa., reduce shipping errors and improve traceability.
Companies can streamline operations by adopting software support for hand-held WiFi scanners, according to a news release.
At the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2013 expo in New Orleans, the Boise, Idaho-based Unisun plans to introduce an electronic data interchange integration system into its Envio line of fresh produce inventory and accounting software.
Shippers typically have to tear off the product label from each pallet as they load it onto trucks, Fred Hess, Hess Bros.’ majority owner, said in the release.
Information would be entered manually, creating a potential source of error. With the Unisun system they can scan the labels and print a full bill of lading at a work station, Hess said in the release.
