United Fresh Foundation honored for work in child nutrition

United Fresh Produce AssociationThe United Fresh Foundation has been recognized for work on Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools and the Foundation’s leadership in child nutrition.

The foundation has received a 2014 Power of A Gold Award winner by the American Society of Association Executives, according to a news release from the United Fresh Produce Association.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by our association peers for our work with Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools and to increase children’s access to fresh fruits and vegetables,” Tom Stenzel, president of United Fresh Produce Association, said in the release. “The produce industry, foundations and allied businesses have rallied around salad bars as a tangible benefit that encourages children’s increased fruit and vegetable consumption and empowers students to make healthy choices in the school lunch line.”

In late June, Stenzel said the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools campaign has supplied salad bars to more than 3,400 school in the U.S., benefitting more than 2 million students every day.

As a Power of A Gold Award winner, the United Fresh Foundation is in the running to receive one of six Summit Awards, ASAE’s highest honor for associations, according to the release. Summit Award winners will be announced July 7 among a field of 23 associations, according to the release.
