United Natural Foods buys Minnesota distributor

Natural and organic food distributor United Natural Foods Inc. has acquired a Minnesota distributor.

Providence, R.I.-based United Natural Foods bought Trudeau Foods LLC, which has more than 600 grocery, wholesale and other customers in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Michigan, according to a United Natural Foods news release.

Trudeau Foods will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Natural Foods, which distributes more than 65,000 products to more than 27,000 customer locations in the U.S. and Canada.

“This acquisition is the latest step in our strategy to grow our market share and deliver a complete basket of specialty, natural and organic products to our customers,” Steve Spinner, United Natural Foods’ president and chief executive officer, said in the release. “We are excited to welcome Trudeau Foods to our organization. Both companies have a tremendous history of commitment to servicing their customers, and we are enthusiastic about the growth prospects for this market.”
