Van Solkema names sales manager

Talbert NethingNethingTalbert Nething, former general manager of Byron Center, Mich.-based grower-shipper Hearty Fresh, has joined Byron Center-based grower-shipper Van Solkema Produce Inc.

Nething became Van Solkema’s sales manager Jan. 14.

Van Solkema’s investment in value-added produce, the company’s near-year-round coverage of several commodities and its established Oh, Boy! label were reasons Nething said he joined Van Solkema.

Nething will oversee four salesman in the company’s Florida/Georgia division and four in Michigan. Carrots, Vidalia onions, peppers, cucumbers, watermelon and cabbage are among Van Solkema’s commodities.

Nething’s produce industry career started in 1994, when he joined the Detroit division of Eden Prairie, Minn.-based C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. as a salesman. He joined Hearty Fresh in 2003.

As of Jan. 17, Hearty Fresh had not named a new general manager, according to a company representative.

Good Luck in your new position Talbert. I'm sure with your knowledge and ability to get thing done in the produce industry Van Solkema's will be gratful a man of your ability was able to become a player on their team.
