Vantaggio deal brings cukes, squash to Prime Time

Prime Time International Pepper grower-shipper Prime Time International is adding cucumbers and hard squash to its offerings through an exclusive marketing agreement with San Diego-based Vantaggio Farming Corp.

The agreement will enable Coachella, Calif.-based Prime Time to offer cucumbers year-round plus acorn, butternut, spaghetti and kabocha squash in the spring. The vegetables are grown in mainland Mexico and Baja and will load at Prime Time’s existing docks.

Cucumbers are a natural fit with the company’s line of peppers, according to a news release, and offer consolidated pickups for customers.

“We are happy that the Vantaggio label will continue going forward,” Vantaggio cofounder Ross Keefer said in the release. “This will enable Brent (Keefer) and I to devote all of our efforts to farming, harvesting and packing operations while partnering with a company recognized as a leader in the industry on sales and marketing.”

The Keefers founded Vantaggio Farming in 2007. Mike Way, Prime Time vice president, said in the release that his company has been familiar with the Vantaggio brand for several years.

Besides its year-round pepper supply Prime Time also seasonally produces tomatoes, watermelon, green beans and corn.
