Consumers in the Lone Star State have a special affinity for products sourced within its borders.

Delta, British Columbia-based Village Farms International Inc. wants to make sure they’re aware of it with a new Texas Grown seal for its vegetables produced in Texas greenhouses.

The seal, a bright green outline of the state, is an eye-catching way to raise awareness, said Helen Aquino, marketing manager.

“In Texas, they are a very state-centric bunch and retailers were asking us for recognition on packages,” Aquino said.

While the Texas Department of Agriculture does have a Go Texan program and logo for products produced in the state, Village Farms wanted a brighter, more pronounced image. The logo design also promotes the feeling of growth, product freshness and authenticity, Aquino said.

By next summer, Village Farms plans to have 130 acres in production in Marfa, Permian Basin and Fort Davis, Texas. Texas Grown products include the company’s full line of tomatoes, mini seedless cucumbers and long English cucumbers.
