Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will visit a Hy-Vee grocery store in Iowa on March 28 to highlight U.S. Department of Agriculture efforts to promote consumption of fruits and vegetables among young children.

Vilsack to highlight results of snack programVilsack also will reveal the results of an evaluation of the agency’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, designed to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in the poorest elementary schools in the U.S. The 2008 farm bill instructed the USDA to evaluate the effectiveness of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program and that evaluation will be revealed by Vilsack in Iowa, according to the USDA.

He is scheduled to appear at a Sioux Falls Hy-Vee to discuss the agency’s focus on childhood nutrition.
