The Washington Apple Education Foundation, Wenatchee, awarded 187 scholarships to students who were raised in the state’s fruit growing districts.
There is an increase of more than 30 scholarships from the prior year, according to a news release.
All of these awards represent about $475,000 in scholarship assistance.
The funds for the scholarships are made by industry members through fundraisers throughout the year, in memory of industry leaders and annual donations, according to the release.
The foundation will host luncheons later this summer to introduce its current students to donors and industry leaders.
The scholarship celebration luncheon will be presented by Northwest Farm Credit Services on July 30 at the Wenatchee Convention Center.
The second luncheon will be on Aug. 3 at the Yakima Convention Center, according to the release.
Tickets for the event must be purchased in advance by contacting the WAEF office at 509-663-7713.
The entire list of the 2012 recipients will be posted on WAEF’s website in the near future.
