Giumarra Wenatchee expects a return to typical Washington apricot volumes this year when its four-week harvest kicks off around July 20.

“We’re up a good 20% to 25% over last year,” said Jason Bushong, sales manager. “We did not have the best blooming season in 2011. This year we had a good fruit set and more of a normal season.”

Quality is good, Bushong said, and fruit size is optimal for Giumarra’s retail and club store programs.

The division of Los Angeles-based The Giumarra Cos. will offer its Rival and Perfection varieties in conventional and organic.

“We’ve had good growth in the organic,” Bushong said. “We’re continuing to get certified, so that acreage has grown.”

The apricots will pack in 3-pound clamshells, Panta-Pak trays, and volume fill display boxes. The fruit is available for customers on both coasts.
