Washington cherry growers will decide whether to continue their federal marketing order.
Growers who produced sweet cherries from April 1, 2010, to March 31, 2011, are eligible to vote, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Every six years, growers vote on whether to renew the marketing order. The vote will be Nov. 5-18.
For the referendum to pass, either two-thirds of growers or producers representing two-thirds of Washington cherry volumes must vote to continue the marketing order.
Eligible growers who don’t receive their ballots in the mail should contact Gary Olson, regional manager of the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service’s Portland, Ore., office, at (503) 362-2724.
