Watermelon shipper Glenos changes name to Kid’s ChoiceA south Florida watermelon marketer is changing its name and expanding volumes.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Tom Glenos Buying Services Inc. is now Kid’s Choice Fresh Produce Inc.

The new name originates from the company’s longtime Kid’s Choice label.

Tom Glenos, president, said it was time to change the name of the company he started in 1990.

“Our business has changed from being a ground buyer to more of a grower-shipper,” he said. “When we first started, I was a buyer. We’re now growing and shipping in several locations. The previous name isn’t representative of the company as well as it should.”

Watermelon shipper Glenos changes name to Kid’s ChoiceThis season, Kid’s Choice plans to repack watermelons from Schoolcraft, Mich., through a partnership with a packing shed, and buy watermelons from Vincennes, Ind.

Glenos grows and packs watermelons in Zolfo Springs, Fla., Trenton, Fla., Cordele, Ga., Leachville, Ark., and Pharr, Texas.

Kid’s Choice also buys from Immokalee, Fla., and Plains, Texas.

Last season, Glenos packed watermelon in high-graphic redesigned bins. Glenos said the bins attract shopper attention and help retailers increase sales.

This season, Glenos plans to ship 900 loads, similar to last year. He plans to start his 2012 season in Zolfo Springs in late April, a little earlier than normal.
