No matter how comprehensive traceability systems are, if printing rubs off labels or lacks necessary resolution for scanners, the goals of the Produce Traceability Initiative will not be met, according to a PTI task force.
To help growers and shippers resolve such issues, a free Web seminar on direct-print technology and requirements for case labeling is scheduled for 11 a.m. PDT July 18. RedLine Solutions, Santa Clara,

Label printing has been identified by PTI as a particularly important component for the success of traceability measures, with a special task force having been created by the PTI Technology Working Group to develop a best practice, according to a Redline news release.
GS1’s global standards director, James Chronowski, is scheduled to provide direct-print tips during the one-hour RedLine session. Topics will include: inkjet technology, PTI print quality requirements, variables affecting direct print barcode quality, how to measure print quality, and resources for understanding barcode print quality.
