The Watsonville, Calif.-based grower-shipper is expanding production of its No. 3352 and No. 4053 strawberry varieties in the Oxnard growing district, which supplements the variety’s earlier growth in the Watsonville, Calif., region, according to a company news release.
Switching acreage to the new varieties will lengthen the Oxnard harvest and boost supplies through early winter, according to company officials.
Well-Pict also has increased plantings of its new raspberry variety, the No. 2933.
The company will showcase the new varieties at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Oct. 14-17 in Atlanta.
Also at Fresh Summit, Well-Pict will promote its “Chuggington”-branded strawberries and a rebate tie-in with the Disney Channel kids’ show.
When shoppers buy a specially-marked one-pound strawberry clamshell from Well-Pict and a DVD of “Chuggington,” they can receive a $3 rebate check in the mail.
