Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry issued its recommendation and report July 18.
California grapes have been imported by other Australian territories and states since 2002. Western Australia growers have feared exposure to the phomopsis viticola fungus, found in Australia and other producing countries.
The report addresses a variety of sanitary and pest management issues, as well as certification and inspection requirements.
California’s export standards sufficiently minimize risk of exposure to the fungus, Rob Delane, director general of Western Australia’s Department of Agriculture and Food, told The West Australian newspaper.
