Whole Foods Market gave Lady Moon Farms, Chambersburg, Pa., an Innovation Award at the retailer’s first Supplier Awards in Austin, Texas.

Lady Moon received the award from the Austin-based Whole Foods for fair and ethical practices, according to a news release.

Lady Moon, an organic grower of produce on the East Coast with farms in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida, was the first in Florida to agree to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers penny-a-pound measure, which gives field workers an extra penny for every pound picked.

“We guarantee all of our fruits and vegetables are harvested with ethical and socially just practices,” said Tom Beddard, owner of Lady Moon, in the release. “There is no other way to honor that guarantee than to ensure our workers are treated fairly.”

Out of thousands of Whole Foods vendors, only 17 were received a supplier award.
