A pair of construction products will enhance the variety and volume coming from organic greenhouse grower Wholesum Family Farms, Nogales, Ariz.
General manager Ricardo Crisantes said the company expects to complete a new 5-acre greenhouse for organic long English cucumbers by May in Arizona.
“We have had great success with retailers with organic long English cucumbers,” he said. “For the last couple of years, we have supplied the product from December to April, and we have now decided to grow it and supply it year-round.”
The cucumbers will be packed under the Wholesum Harvest label, he said.
Wholesum also plans a 5-acre expansion of its 40-acre greenhouse in Sonora, Mexico, for production of organic beefsteak tomatoes. Construction on that project should begin in February and be done by July, Crisantes said.
Wholesum already offers year-round supplies of organic tomatoes on the vine, beefsteak, cherry and heirloom tomatoes. Crisantes said the new construction in northern Sonora will increase the company’s beefsteak production by 20%.
