The Delta, British Columbia, greenhouse operation was among 50 tomato growers from around the world that entered the contest sponsored by Netherlands-based HortiBiz in conjunction with Fruit Logistica 2014, according to a news release.
Representing the family-owned Windset Farms at the award presentation Feb. 7 were brothers Steven and John Newell, chief executive officer and chief operations officer, respectively.
They credited all Windset employees and growers for the win, saying “it takes a lot of people to make this happen,” in the news release.
Windset has greenhouses in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Santa Maria, Calif., and Las Vegas. The company grows peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant and endive.
