David Thompson recently accepted appointment to the post of president and chief executive officer for the World Potato Congress.
Thompson has 40 years experience in the North American and global potato industry, according to a news release from the organization in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He has been a member of the board of directors for the international potato marketing organization since 2000 and was previously vice president.
“I believe we must ramp up our efforts to position WPC Inc as a relevant and significant player in the global potato industry,” Thompson said in the news release.
In his career Thompson provided marketing and technical support to Canadian and U.S. potato growers, initiating stewardship programs. He worked as a field marketing specialist for Syngenta Crop Protection.
Thompson has remained active in the potato industry during retirement, working the Potato Association of North America, the Potato Marketing Association of North America, the Canadian Association of Agricultural Retailers, the Canadian Horticultural Council and the Prince Edward Island Grain Elevator Corp.
