New Zealand-based marketer Zespri Kiwifruit is entering the SunGold variety in the new product award competition at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association convention and trade show April 2-4 in Vancouver.
“Zespri SunGold kiwifruit is a new, naturally-bred variety that’s been 10 years in development,” Glen Arrowsmith, global marketing manager in organics, said in a news release. “It’s a great example of Zespri’s leadership in kiwifruit through our culture of innovation, experienced growers, and sustainable growing practices.”
Zespri is scheduled for booth 1030 at the trade show.
The SunGold was introduced in 2012 to replace gold varieties devastated by the vine disease pseudomonas syringae pv actinidiae, or PSA.
At CPMA, Zespri also plans to exhibit its biospife kiwifruit eating utensil, compostable labels, and recyclable or renewable packaging. The company will also support CPMA’s educational program for children, the Freggie program, with donated coloring books and stickers for children’s loot bags.
Zespri, a grower-owned cooperative, represents more than 2,700 growers exporting upwards of 100 million trays annually.
