Zespri’s Kiwifruit for Kids promotion returns

Zespri Kiwifruit for Kids Zespri International Ltd. has begun its second annual Kiwifruit for Kids campaign to benefit six U.S. children’s health charities.

Recipients are Treeswing, Seattle; Chicago Run; iCAN Foundation, New Orleans; Play Rugby USA, New York; Louie’s Kids, Charleston, S.C.; and LiveWell Colorado, Denver, according to a news release. The nonprofits support education on youth obesity and healthy eating.

Mount Maunganui, New Zealand-based kiwifruit marketer Zespri launched this year’s campaign Sept. 10 on a contest website and its Facebook page. It runs through Oct. 21.

The sites ask consumers to earn points for their charity or region by answering health trivia questions; exercising an hour a day; exercising online cartoon characters; or checking into supermarkets via Facebook.

At the end of the campaign, the charity with the most points will receive $10,000 from Zespri. Second place wins $5,000 and the other nonprofits get $1,500 each.

“Given that September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, this is the perfect time to send that message home,” Margaux Rathbun, campaign spokeswoman, said in the release.

Retail point-of-sale signage for Kiwifruit for Kids is available nationwide.
