Orangeline Farms Sales Ltd. has expanded its commodity lineup to include greenhouse-grown strawberries, which are available now at retailers in Canada.
Shipping under its Zing! label, the family-owned greenhouse has also begun the 2014 harvest of bell peppers and giant runner beans, according to a news release.
Jordan Kniaziew, president of the Leamington, Ontario-based company, said in the release that the Zing! strawberries offer Canadian retailers and consumers a locally grown option.
“Typically, only imported product is available at this time of year,” he said in the release. “We believe we’re the first out with our fresh, local berries that consumers here can typically only get in the summer.”
With greenhouse strawberries, growers have control over all aspects of the fruit’s development, Kniaziew said in the release.
