(Dec. 6) Roy Lubetkin has been named president and chief executive officer of Backyard Farms LLC, the Madison, Maine-based greenhouse tomato grower-shipper.

Backyard Farms spokeswoman Melissa Doyle said Lubetkin’s first day was Dec. 1. He succeeds co-founder Paul Sellew, who said he will continue to work as a director of the company.

Prior to joining Backyard Farms, Lubetkin was president of Country Products Group, a division of Syracuse, N.Y.-based cooperative Agway Inc.

Lubetkin, 50, also has worked as general manager of the eastern region of Metz Baking Co. and also was president of Churny Co., a division of Kraft Foods.

Backyard Farms completed a $24 million, 25-acre greenhouse in fall 2006 and started harvesting tomatoes Jan. 29. The company, which has year-round supplies, said in a news release that it has produced 17 million pounds of tomatoes this year.
