(March 17, 3:50 p.m., PACKER WEB EXCLUSIVE) California Giant Berry Farms, Watsonville, Calif., will be sending its six-member cycling team to the 2008 American Eagle Outfitters Tour of Pennsylvania, a six-day, 450-mile bike race across the state from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.

California Giant Cycling is selecting team members to compete in the event, June 24-29 that will be televised around the world, said Anthony Gallino, vice president of sales. It will be one of 20 teams competing. Max Jenkins, a national road race champion, and Tyler Dibble, a top cyclo-cross rider, are already part of the team, he said.

The event gives the berry company a unique opportunity to participate in a nationally recognized race in a state where the company’s strawberries are sold in regional and national retail stores.

Gallino said the company looks forward to the race as an opportunity to show California Giant’s products as the team sports the brand on its jerseys.
