News California Giant names blueberry manager By Mike Hornick May 18, 2011 | 12:52 am EDT Comments Print Pence California Giant Berry Farms has hired Evan Pence as general manager for blueberry packing operations, according to a news release. It’s a newly created position at the Watsonville, Calif.-based grower-shipper. Pence was operations manager for Family Tree Farms, Reedley, Calif. His duties there included developing the company’s blueberry packing and logistics program. He previously had positions at Del Monte Fresh Produce and Wawona Frozen Foods. Pence will relocate from Reedley to the Aurora, Ore., area. He’ll work with Patrick Garrison, Silverio Ramos and others on California Giant’s plans to expand its blueberry business. Options include acquiring new growers, relocating facilities or adding products. “I know (Pence) will have a key role in advancing our blueberry program in California and (the) Pacific Northwest,” Bill Moncovich, California Giant president, said in the release.
