(July 11, UPDATED COVERAGE 2:09 p.m.) Beginning with apple and pear crops this fall, Chelan, Wash.-based Chelan Fresh Marketing will market all fruit grown by Wapato, Wash.-based E.W. Brandt & Sons Inc.

The deal gives Chelan Fresh a second supplier in the Yakima, Wash., area, said Steve Terry, the company’s general manager.

“It gives us a little stronger foothold in the Yakima Valley,” he said. “We hope to grow our business.”

The addition of E.W. Brandt will increase Chelan Fresh’s total volumes by up to 10%, Terry said.

Chelan Fresh also markets fruit in the Yakima area supplied by Obert Cold Storage Inc., Zillah, Wash.

The addition of E.W. Brandt will help Chelan Fresh keep up with growing retail demand, Terry said.

“We’ve grown our retail base, and we’re looking for additional fruit going forward,” he said. “We’ve got a good quality product and service, and a good marketing department that really hustles.”

E.W. Brandt grows and ships apples, pears, stone fruit and other fruits as well as vegetables.

Chelan Fresh also will sell E.W. Brandt’s cherries and stone fruit, and will pack all the fruit in its Trout and Chelan Fresh labels.

This is the first new grower to come on board since Chelan Fresh was founded in 2004, Terry said.

The company came into being with the merger of Altafresh and Chelan Fruit Co., Terry said.

Currently, Chelan Fresh markets fruit from Brewster Heights Packing, Chelan Fruit Cooperative and Apple House.
