(March 14) Ciruli Bros. LLC, Rio Rico, Ariz., is launching an organic line, Ciruli Bros. Organika, starting with mangoes this spring.
The company plans to import organic Mexican mangoes from mid-April through September, said Chuck Ciruli Sr., chairman.
Although he wouldn’t speculate on potential volumes, Ciruli said the company will be sourcing enough product to supply several retail chains.
“This is not an experiment,” he said. “We’re getting into it in a substantial manner.”
Product will be packed under a new brand name, Ciruli Bros. Organika.
Ciruli Bros. decided to enter the organic mango deal after a couple of years of retailers making inquiries about the possibility of the company adding an organic program, Ciruli said.
“The way organics have been growing, the consumer interest that there is, we felt it was time we got involved,” he said.
Ciruli Bros. will source product from a former grower partner in Mexico it recently re-established relationships with, Ciruli said.
If the organic mango deal goes well, Ciruli Bros. could start sourcing organic vegetables from Mexico as early as next fall, Ciruli said.
