(Dec. 2, 12:15 p.m.) An Iowa produce distributor founded in 1949 has formally passed the baton to its founding family’s third generation.

Joe Comito has sold his shares of Norwalk, Iowa-based Capital City Fruit Co. Inc. to his three sons, according to a company news release.

After 30 years at the helm of Capital City Fruit, Joe Comito cedes control to Christian Comito, the company’s chief executive officer; Brendan Comito, chief operations officer; and Kieran Comito, produce account executive.

Joe Comito’s father, Joseph T. Comito, is the company’s founder.

The three Comito brothers began buying shares from their father 15 years ago, and five years ago they took over the day-to-day operations of Capital City Fruit, Christian Comito said in the release. They now have equal shares in the company.
