Ag groups host Taste of Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — It may be just a quick bite to eat during a busy day at the state capitol, but the Texas Ag Council finds it beneficial to give legislators a taste of what the agriculture industry contributes.

The group, made up of more than 60 agricultural organizations in the state, has hosted the event for the past 12 years, said Warren Mayberry, co-chair.

“We think it’s really important they see the role agriculture plays in the state,” he said.

This year’s Taste of Texas was April 24, with a buffet lunch of Texas-produced foods.

J Carnes, president of Uvalde-based Winter Garden Produce, said the event is a good venue to raise awareness of ag issues.

“It’s a good opportunity to reach legislators, and even sometimes more importantly, their chiefs of staff,” he said.
