As part of a continuing expansion and upgrade program, David J. Elliot & Son installed fruit handling equipment before the start of this pear season.
The Courtland, Calif.-based operation expanded cold-storage space last season, and added cold storage environmental controls for eliminating decay, said David Thiessen, sales manager.
“We’ve experienced significant expansion in terms of volume in recent years, but have still managed to keep all aspects of our production within our complete control,” he said. “Since we manage and farm everything we offer, we can provide consistent quality from orchard to marketing, ensuring the highest quality from the state of the season to the end.”
The operation plans to offer organic bartletts, red pears and gold boscs in 2014, Thiessen said.
