The Butterkin, a new winter squash variety, is now shipping.
Developed by Hall, N.Y.-based seed company Seedway LLC, Butterkins began shipping in September and should be available in parts of the U.S. and Canada through November, according to a company news release.
The Butterkin combines sweet and buttery flavors, has a creamy texture and weighs from 2 to 4 pounds.
“We are very excited for the Butterkin’s first season,” Dean Cotton, Seedway’s vegetable seed business manager, said in the release. “Arriving just in time for fall celebrations, we know consumers will love Butterkin for its great flavor.”
Marketing support for butterkins includes PLU stickers, point-of-sale signage and public relations outreach.
