A $3 million-plus expansion of Syngenta’s Pasco, Wash., vegetable seed processing facility is expected to be complete for the 2014 season.

Changes include an expanded quality testing lab and an in-house seed treatment facility, according to a news release.

Besides improving turnaround times and testing accuracy, the expansion aims to broaden adoption of Syngenta’s FarMore Technology platform. It’s an on-seed application of separately registered seed protection products and proprietary application technology for vegetable varieties.

FarMore offers early-season protection against some diseases and insects and improves yield and quality potential for small-seeded vegetable crops, said Scott Langkamp, head of vegetables for North America at Syngenta.

“This investment enables us to deliver that technology in a more efficient and expedient fashion,” he said in the release.

The Pasco facility was built in 2009 on a 40-acre site. Technology includes sweet corn dryers and a conditioning warehouse.

The facility is Good Seed and Plant Practices accredited and adheres to hygiene and safety protocols to reduce the risk of Clavibacter michiganensis infection in tomato seeds, according to the release.
