(March 25, 11:45 a.m.) Michigan asparagus growers voted to extend a state marketing order that supports research and helps create marketing opportunities.
87% of growers voted in favor of the order, according to the Michigan Department of Agriculture, the administrator of the marketing order.
The order, established in 1978, must be approved by growers every five years.
The order currently is funded through an assessment of 1½ cents per pound of asparagus, and cannot exceed 2 cents per pound.
The department released the results of the grower vote on March 19.
