Florida Citrus Packers elects officers

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. —Florida Citrus Packers Inc., Lakeland, the trade group representing the state's fresh citrus packers, elected new officers during its 49th annual meeting on June 25:

  • Michel Sallin, president and chief executive officer of IMG Citrus Inc., Vero Beach, president;
  • Cody Estes, president of Quality Fruit Packers of Indian River Inc., Vero Beach,  second vice president;


  • Don Barwick, general manager of Heller Bros. Packing Corp., Winter Garden, secretary/treasurer.
The group elected these individuals to its executive committee for the 2009-10 season:
  • Sallin, chairman;
  • Barwick; and
  • Larry Black, general manager of Peace River Packing Co., Fort Meade.
Florida Citrus Packers also recognized Tim Gottwald, a plant pathologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s horticultural research laboratory in Fort Pierce, Fla., as the industry’s “Man of the Year.” Gottwald received the group’s John T. Lesley Award of Excellence for his work on the citrus canker disease.
