Source Organic is introducing Florida strawberries through a partnership with an organic grower.
The import division of Bridgeport, N.J.-based Albert’s Organics Inc., has partnered with Plant City, Fla.-based Strawberry Passion Farms LLC.
The grower, Charles Young, grows on 16 acres but said he is considering expanding. Though Young sold berries to Source Organic last season, this year, he’s allowing the distributor to market all of his organic berries.
“So far, the relationship with them has been excellent,” Young said. “They have put together a real strong retail program.”
This is Source Organic’s first direct program in Florida. The company started its partnership with Strawberry Passion Farms last year, said Kathryn Courtney, Source Organic’s senior business manager.
Working in the industry for 30 years on the supply side, Young began growing strawberries in 2006 and started selling organic berries in 2007.
Source Organic markets Young’s berries in the popular festival and radiance varieties. Source Organic plans to offer flats of 8-1 pound clamshells, in 12 8-ounce containers as well as in 2-pound packs.
