(July 14, 4:24 p.m.) Former White House spokesman Tony Snow, who was scheduled to be a speaker at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2008 expo, lost a battle to cancer July 12.

Snow had been scheduled to speak to a breakfast session Oct. 26 at Fresh Summit in Orlando, Fla. The convention is Oct. 24-27.

“We are very saddened to learn of his passing, and our condolences go out to his family, “said Julia Stewart, public relations director for the Newark, Del.-based PMA. She said Snow and his staff had not cancelled their commitment to PMA before his passing.

PMA has lined up Victoria “Torie” Clarke to address the Fresh Summit 2008 Sunday breakfast general session Oct. 26. That was the session Snow was to address, Stewart said.

Similar to what Snow would have offered, Clarke brings an insider’s perspective on topics of national and international affairs, Stewart said.

Clarke, a political commentator, author and consultant, served in three different presidential administrations.

In 2006 she published the book, “Lipstick on a Pig: Winning in the No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game.”

She was spokeswoman for Department of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld earlier in the George W. Bush administration and as press secretary during the senior George Bush’s 1992 reelection campaign.
