(May 19, 4:05 p.m.) Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc., Monterey, Calif., will roll out six new bagged salad kits this summer. By July, consumers should expect to see the company’s new Distinctively Dole line in stores.

The line will provide a much-needed creative boost to the bagged salad category, said Bil Goldfield, communications manager for Dole Fresh Vegetable’s parent company, Westlake Village, Calif.-based Dole Food Co. Inc.

“The category has not experienced much, in terms of innovation, recently, and Dole saw a customer-needs gap,” he said. “With these salads, we are addressing that. The premium ingredients, seasoning packets and proprietary dressings make the salads unique and we are all very excited about them.”

Before the July rollout, the Distinctively Dole line will be aggressively marketed through national trade advertising, in-pack announcements and online communications, Goldfield said.

When the salads hit stores, they will be accompanied by retailer demonstrations, coupons, consumer advertising, in-store displays and other promotions.

The new salads:

  • Asian Island Crunch, which features iceberg and romaine lettuce, carrots, red cabbage, snow peas, almonds and pineapple;

  • Hearty Italian — romaine and radicchio;

  • Perfect Harvest — field greens, cranberries and almonds;

  • Southwest Salad — iceberg and romaine;

  • Summer Salad — iceberg, romaine, greens and carrots; and

  • Ultimate Caesar.
