(Aug. 3) The 114 companies that have signed on to California's Leafy Green Products Handler Marketing Agreement now can use a Department of Food and Agriculture logo on their bills of lading for shipments to supermarkets and restaurants, according to a story in the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

The purpose of the program is to provide a safer food supply by requiring growers to meet strict food safety standards.

The department logo eventually could end up on bags of leafy greens in supermarket produce departments, Scott Horsfall, the group's chief executive officer, said in the article.
