Des Moines, Iowa-based distributor Loffredo Fresh Produce has achieved SQF 2000 Level 2 certification at all five of its Midwest facilities.

The company achieved the distinction in 2012, said Mark Hersh, quality assurance and food safety manager.

“Loffredo was the first Pro*Act member to achieve SQF 2000 level certification,” Hersh said.

In addition, Loffredo’s Des Moines facility’s fresh-cut processing plant has earned SQF Category 14 certification, Hersh said.

The company’s facilities in Omaha, Neb.; Kansas City, Mo.; Rock Island, Ill.; and Madison, Wis. all are certified in SQF categories 25 and 26.

“The multi-facility aspect is a unique achievement unto itself, and takes a lot of dedication from senior management,” Hersh said. “Many corporate entities are already setting deadlines for their suppliers to be GFSI certified, and I feel that Loffredo is a couple of years ahead of the pack.”
