A Minnesota produce company is recalling fresh-cut cantaloupe supplied to retailers and foodservice operators because the fruit is under a recall by DFI Marketing Inc. due to possible salmonella contamination.
No illnesses have been reported in relation to the DFI cantaloupe or the fresh-cut products.
Cut Fruit Express Inc., Inver Grove Heights, Minn., distributed the fresh-cut fruit products through Sept. 5. Most of the product went to retailers in Minnesota, said Imme Fernandez, director of food safety for Cut Fruit Express.
Some of the fresh-cut cantaloupe was also distributed to retailers in Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Fernandez said Cut Fruit Express received 112 cartons of nine-count cantaloupes from DFI Marketing, which grew the cantaloupes at its operation in Huron, Calif.
DFI officials recalled 28,000 bulk cartons of cantaloupe Sept. 12 after they were informed a single melon from a distribution center tested positive for salmonella. Officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture did the random test as part of the agency’s Microbiological Data Program.
