Trinity FreshFresh produce distributor Trinity Fresh has begun notifying foodservice customers in the Sacramento area which items on their orders qualify for Farm to Fork status, an initiative that promotes locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Last October, Sacramento proclaimed itself America’s Farm to Fork Capital, a move backed by the city’s mayor, Kevin Johnson.

To qualify, items must be produced within 100 miles of Sacramento. That radius includes Stockton and other growing areas.

Since then Cattlemens Steakhouse and Thunder Valley Casino Resort’s High Steaks Restaurant have been developing menu items featuring Farm to Fork products, according to a news release.

Trinity Fresh has started working with new growers to add more local items such as cipollini onions, heirloom tomatoes and fingerling potatoes.

The distributor is scheduled to participate in Sacramento Farm to Fork week Sept. 21-29. Events will include a festival on the Capitol Mall offered by the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau.
