Look for avocados as a menu option at another leading hamburger chain.
Whataburger is now offering fresh sliced avocados as a topping to any of the San Antonio-based chain’s menu items.
Customer requests prompted Whataburger, which operates more than 500 stores in the South and Southwest, to add the popular topping, according to a news release.
As Whataburger management more closely examined the potential of sliced avocados, it became clear the product was a natural fit with the wide range of the company’s existing menu items which include also include chicken sandwiches, chicken fajita tacos and salads.
The chain wanted to satisfy growing demand, Rich Scheffler, Whataburger’s vice president of marketing and innovation, said in the release.
“With a fresh ingredient like avocado and our dedication to quality, it’s taken some time to make sure we get this right,” he said in the release. “It’s a very natural complement to our menu, and we especially love the ingredients we’ve put together for the avocado bacon burger.”
To celebrate the addition of avocados, Whataburger for a limited time is offering its avocado bacon burger which includes creamy pepper sauce, American cheese and Texas toast.
Before it added avocados, Whataburger management calculated customers could build a Whataburger sandwich with 36,864 possible combinations, according to the release.
Founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Whataburger calls itself the eighth largest U.S. hamburger chain.
It operates stores from Florida to Arizona.
